What is the secret that some people have discovered how to look confident, despite having doubts like many? They know that confidence is not something you have, but it is something that you create. Confidence comes from within and you can find ways to be confident at any time.
All of us go through bad days or moments that upset us. Being confident doesn’t mean we are completely sure of ourselves at all times. Creating confidence is not about knowing it all; it is about trusting that no matter what happens in a particular situation, we will be able to handle it and learn from the outcome.
Learning how to become more confident is important in every part of our life, but there are some instances where it’s crucial, especially at times where you feel like giving up. Being confident is critical for you if you are in a position that requires you to influence people and be trustworthy at work place or business. If you are not confident or appear sure of yourself, people will not follow you.
Whether you are a Teacher, Teacher Educator, Trainer or in any other position that you need to present a confident face during frequent client interactions. In order to succeed yourself and help your organisation or Institution succeed, you need to establish and build rapport with people and to be able to do that, you need to be Confident.
What helps you to be Confident?
- Body Language
Mastering the Body language will help you to a great extent to be confident and that can put you on the road to success.
Try to recall about someone you know whom you consider very confident…That person is self-assured because of the way he carried himself and moved. Well, you have the power to change how you are feeling by controlling the way your body moves and the way you present yourself.
2. Self Talk
It is my favourite! I have practised this a lot and it works. I keep saying this to my audience in all coaching and workshops. The words we use create our emotions, and our emotions create our world. If we are not feeling confident, it’s a result of our self –talk. How do you talk to yourself in your own mind? The self-talk you use has an important effect on your confidence. Focus on yourself when you are thinking negatively about your body and replace the thought with something you love about yourself.
3. Overcome your Limiting Beliefs
Our beliefs can put healthy boundaries on questionable behaviour. But limiting beliefs hold us back from what we want in life – Mark Manson.
Substantially, limiting beliefs are created in our childhood days. Terribly, they come part of our identity. Example; “I’m Ghana and I’m not good looking”. “I’m not good enough for this role” “I’m brown so people don’t like me”. Inaptly, we suppose these stories are keeping us safe, guarding us from rejection and demolition, but the truth is they are just stories we make up in our head by attaching made-up meanings to events. And we pay heavy price all our lives.
4. Growth Mindset
Do you think shifting from a Fixed mind-set to a Growth mind-set will boost your confidence? Of course, yes. Shifting from “I stick to what I know” to “I like to try new things” can make a world of difference to you. Growth mindset helps you to improve and become the best version of yourself over time.
Action is the key – Take action now. Adopt a Growth mindset and learn to be more confident.
5. Deciding What matters to you most
In your organisation or Institution, if you have made a contribution that accomplished a goal for the organisation or Institution or led to a positive result, it is not boasting to point it out to your immediate Superior, Manager or the Head of the Organisation or Institution – After all, it is a fact. As long as you put it across well, it won’t just make you look good, it will make you feel good, too.
6. Consider your top human need
Determining what drives your decisions is another important step toward knowing how to be confident in yourself. We all have these human needs; Growth, significance, Safety/Survival, love/connection, Creation/contribution, Freedom and Self-fulfillment. We value one among these needs quite the others, and it affects every decision we make in life. It can even affect our confidence. For example, if your top need is SIGNIFICANCE, you’ll start feeling insecure if you don’t get the recognition you need.
7. Attitude of Gratitude
“When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears”
When you develop a station of gratefulness you feel happier and more positive. Gratitude increases compassion and it also makes you thankful for the people that matters.
Gratitude shifts your mindset. Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what you have, not what you don’t have. When you express gratefulness, you feel more positive and are more purposeful as well.
8. Goal Setting and Visualisation
Visualisation is an important tool to apply on the road to understanding how to become more confident person. Say for example, you dream of becoming an entrepreneur and visualise it over and over again, your mind begins to believe that it has already happened.
Use goals to help shape your destiny and unleash your best. To make your goals sticky, have a strong reason for them. Because, when you have a strong reason, chances are that you press the Action button!
